"I have to make a choice, I can have chocolate or vanilla ice cream?"

choose - verb - to decide which thing or person you want out of the ones that are available (選択する)
"I have to choose between chocolate or vanilla, it's hard!"

Something smells... くさい!


*That smells. When we say something smells without adding a positive adjective (you smell nice; dinner smells good etc.) it has a bad meaning.

"This bathroom smells!" = the smell is not good

"You smell, didn't you have a shower today!"


If something smells good please add a positive adjective to your sentence...

"There's a nice smell coming from the kitchen, Mom is baking cookies!!!"


"You smell great tonight, I love your perfume."

Are you confident using English? Let's look at 2 ways to use the word CONFIDENT

Confident is an adjective. It can mean:
~ feeling sure about your own ability to do things and be successful

"She a relaxed, confident person. People felt very comfortable around her."

"The teacher wants the students to feel confident about asking questions when they don't understand."


It can also mean:
~ feeling certain that something will happen in the way that you want or expect

"The team is confident they will win the championship."

"I'm confident that you will get the job."

Be careful... this sentence is not natural English.

"I enjoyed skiing on my vacation."

BETTER

"I went skiing on my vacation. It was fun!"

*We can say "I enjoy playing tennis."

- This means I like playing tennis. This is fun for me.

This sounds strange:

A: "How was the party?"

This is better:

A: "How was the party?"

B: "It was fun, I enjoyed it."

Thin ~ other uses

Meaning not fat = not covered with much flesh 

"He was tall and thin, with dark hair."

For hair = not growing closely together or in large amounts 

thin grey hair

For liquid = containing more liquid than is normal or expected 

"The sauce was thin and tasteless."

For smoke = fairly easy to see through 

 
"They fought their way through to where the smoke was thinner."
For air = containing less oxygen than normal 

"At high altitudes the air is very thin."

convenience - noun - the quality of being useful or easy for somebody (利便性)
"We have provided seats for the convenience of our customers."





*The adjective form convenient is used most of the time.


"Tokyo is a convenient place to live."

"Living beside a grocery store is very convenient."
